One of the best but most overlooked tools for conducting genealogy research in the United States is the social security death index. As perhaps the largest single database of it’s kind anywhere in the world,  the index has enabled many who use it to trace their family tree and find the missing links to their family heritage, especially during the era when many immigrants were coming into the United States.
